Conditions

Facial, Leg and Varicose Veins

Having varicose veins or spider veins can affect your appearance, but more than that, they can also cause discomfort and put you at risk of other medical conditions, like open sores and blood clots.

Spider or Facial Veins

Spider veins are milder and can show up anywhere on the body, although they often present themselves on the face. These veins are injured veins  and can be caused by many different factors. For example, pressure from inflammation, high blood pressure, or obesity can cause severe damage to the walls of your blood vessels.

Facial Veins or telangiectasia are small blood vessels that sit near the skins surface and create visible patterns on lines. The exact cause are several factors that may contribute to their development , such as genetics, sun and wind exposure, medication, pregnancy, trauma to the skin, excessive alcohol consumption, surgical incisions.

Another reason for facial veins or telangiectasias is aging. As you get older, your veins and skin start to weaken. Too much sun exposure through the years, toxins in the air, stress, insomnia, and lack of exercise can also contribute to aging skin and weaken blood vessels.

There are things you can do to take care of your skin, such as eating fruits and vegetables, getting plenty of rest each night, and managing your stress levels. By staying healthy, protection from sun exposure you can reduce the chances of facial and spider veins, but once they appear, they usually require treatment in order to clear them up.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are often found in the legs and feet but can occur in other places. Like spider veins, they appear when a blood vessel is injured or weakened. For example, our veins push blood to our heart, but when they weaken, blood can flow away from the heart and accumulate in the blood vessels and veins. This puts pressure on the walls, causing them to bulge. This is when we see the varicose veins appear.

These veins will appear more often as you get older or if you stand or sit for long periods of time during the day. Pregnancy can also cause varicose veins to show.
